I Remember

I remember smiles on meeting,
And hugs to say goodbye.
I remember times of hurting,
Not knowing reasons why.
I remember times of closeness,
And love apparent there.
I remember my one promise,
That I would always care.
I remember sitting to talk,
and listening to her fears.
I remember starting to walk,
And then seeing her tears.
I remember I was upset,
But pushed her help away.
I remember then I’d regret
The things that I would say.
I remember when I noticed,
She was avoiding me.
I remember when I realised,
No answer could I see.
I remember that I had hoped,
Our friendship would not end.
I remember how I had coped,
Without her as a friend.
I remember letters written,
And getting no replies,
I remember being genuine,
Then only hearing lies.
I remember all the laughs and tears,
And all the hurt and pain.
But I’d give up all these memories,
To be her friend again.
