After leaving our luxurious cabin at Lake Argyle, we travelled the 322km to our next stop, The Bungle Bungle Caravan Park at Ord River.
It was here that we traded luxury for experience as we had booked a Safari Tent for the night.
The Bungle Bungles is a range of rock formations in the Purnululu National Park.
Being far away from civilisation gave a great opportunity to go out and take some photos of the star-filled sky. So with my tripod, I set out to take some long-exposure shots.
After taking some photos, however, I noticed a strange red glow in them that was not visible to the naked eye.
Zooming in on the viewscreen of the camera, I realised the glow was not just a random artefact of the long exposure, but was actually showing that off in the distance there was a fire.
I didn't mention it when I went back into the tent, but I did make an excuse to go out an hour or so later to check that it hadn't come any closer.
We were safe and well away from the fire, but little did we know that in just a few day's time, our travel schedule would be interrupted by the bushfires.
